The Gospel of Matthew
Matthew's name means "Gift of the Lord." He was also called Levi and the son of Alpheus (Mark 2:14). Matthew is a Jew writing to Jews. His goal in writing this Gospel is to prove to His Jewish readers that Jesus is the Messiah. Matthew shows how Jesus fulfills the Old Testament, which is what Jewish people would have wanted to know.
